through the day. we'll see rain also into saturday, and saturday night into sunday. it's not just one system. it's actually a series of systems. now, let's take a wider view picture of this satellite and radar view. the main event is down here. this system of low pressure kind of spawned another short wave. that's moving through right, right now. then the main event coming through tomorrow morning. and another storm to the north is going to come rushing through sunday morning. right now, it is dry. even though we have picked up a few returns on the radar. light showers along the north bay coastline. we saw them earlier, but right now it's just too dry for the rain to hit the ground. once we move into the overnight hours, rain will start approaching. getting down here eventually by the morning commute. we'll have showers over the east bay, but it will

still be relatively dry at this point. then 8:00, widespread light rain. once it gets going, it really gets going! noon, continued light rain. the rain is not going to be too heavy until we get to the later afternoon, evening hours. then it'll start to pick up in intensity like you see here. we're going to finish timing this out on futurecast, talk more about the rain, and the snow coming up. an east bay woman devastated after losing her son for a second time. this is a photo of the urn which held the ashes of her son, gabriel. she says it was stolen wednesday night. thieves broke in while she and her children were away. gabriel died at birth, and she doesn't care about the other things. >> just put it in the mailbox. take it anywhere and just say -- lie and say you found them.

or even throw it in my yard or stand it on the back of my car or something! i just want him back. >> she did immediately file a police report. she is hoping that the thieves are found. and an update to the story we brought you last night. san rafael police released this sketch of a suspected prowler injured in a confrontation with two women in their home late tuesday night. the armed man entered the apartment on the 200-block of playa del rale about 12:30. he might have been stabbed, police say. he is described as hispanic, between 18-25 years old. a new judge has approved

there's nobody around me. and the box office is quiet. but that's because everyone's inside watching the movie! here in berkeley, the united artist theatre showing breaking down at 10:00 tonight, it's about halfway through right now. the line outside earlier stretching around the building. it was a mostly young crowd with a lot of twilight fans buying their tickets well in advance of showtime. the theatre showing the film on three screen, all sold out. at least 600 tickets were sold tonight. why has the series been so successful? >> i really loved reading the books. i was an avid, never, and i became one after reading these books. >> i drove by and screamed twilight, and everyone screamed. >> she's one of my favorite there ares. and i think the

obsession with vam -- authors. >> reporter: and the theatre manager was considering adding some show times depending on the crowd. maybe 11:30 and midnight. but he got the sellout that he was looking for. so if you want to see the movie, you're going to have to wait till the morning! parents at a san jose grade school are upset over how a registered sex offender was given permission to be on campus amid hundreds of children. the 51-year-old was convicted of molesting a young relatively years ago. he was recognized and reported to a sheriff's deputy. but he had a letter from the san jose catholic diocese giving him permission to be there. the letter is not consistent with policy, and he is no longer volunteering at the school. parents want to know why was he there in the first

place? >> i think it's just atrocious. i don't know how anyone could get away with that. it's just unable. >> how would you know if that person there is a sex offender? you don't know. >> i don't know how the diocese allowed that. all of us have to be fingerprinted and everything to take our kids for the field trips and everything. >> this case does remain open. but the sheriff's department says he has not been charge because of a relatively obscure state law that citizen registered sex offenders can be on school ground fist they have permission from school officials. james holmes misses his day in court. and an update on a story we brought you last night.

chicko state university is -- chico state university is suspending all activities after a student died of an alcohol overdose. they will be barred from recruiting students or having social events until the spring semester. mason died today 11 days after being admitted to the hospital. he had been celebrating his 21st birthday. he was pledging sigma pi. there have been other

recent deaths including allegations of hazing and sexual assaults. james holmes was taken to a hospital after running head-first into a jail cell wall. police l described his self-inflicted injuries as half hearted attempts to commit suicide. he was scheduled to appear in court today. that hearing was postponed. he is accused of shooting 70 people, killing 12 of them at a midnight screening of the dark knight rises back in july. this might be the weekend to make some indoor plans! we've got a lot of rain on the way. what you can expect. got to get that umbrella out and keep it handy for the next several days! rain should start into the morning commute and last all through the day tomorrow, most of the day on saturday, and it will come through early in the day sunday morning. satellite and radar picture, the main event still sitting offshore. we had a short wave moving through earlier. another storm is up in the gulf of alaska. that's sunday's system. tomorrow, once this rain gets going, it's going to last for a while!

once it gets going, it can really bring some steady rain. and the computer models can underestimate how we're going to -- how much rain we're going to get! they have a hard time with warm convection patterns. heavier rain south of the golden gate by the 6:00 hour, pushing up to the north by the 8:00 hour. continuing through the north bay by 11:00, and then we'll see residual showers into saturday morning. you see things look like they're going to clear up into saturday midday. i think we'll see a lull in the rain before it picks up again into saturday evening. weather through the sierra, you can see a winter weather advisory is in effect until 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. now, because this is what we call a warm air pattern, we're not going to be seeing snow at the lowest levels, only at the

highest elevations. that's why the advisories aren't as widespread as typical. snow level will be about 7,000 feet tomorrow. into saturday, steady rain expected, and by sunday, snow levels dropping a little bit but not much. it's not going to be a big snow-maker, but we are going to see quite a bit of rain just because of the pattern itself. it tends to last a while. showery tomorrow into saturday morning, a little bit of a lull before that second system out of the gulf of alaska comes through. drier conditions on sunday. once you wake up on sunday morning, most of the rain is going to be gone. by sunday at noon, things aren't going to be too bad. we'll see some lingering cloud cover. monday things stay dry too. another round of rain expected for tuesday evening, wednesday, and possibly into thursday.

the popular ride-sharing services uber-lift and side car have been fined for public safety violations. gabe slate met with one of the serves to get reaction. >> reporter: ride-sharing service wases are catching on like -- services are catching on like wildfire. you find someone near you who can give you a ride. the companies offering this all have different ways of making this work and collecting money for the drivers. jim zimer is cofounder of lift, one slapped with a citation. >> the consumer cooperation has been incredible. thousands of users and rides every week. that gets the attention of people. and i think there are questions people have, they donned what we're doing -- don't understand what we're doing. >> reporter: these are charter party carriers and have to

obtain authorization before operating in this state. >> it claims we are a charter party carrier. we are 100% not a charter party carrier. if you are, you have to list the vehicles you own. we are a platform for people who are offering rides and people that need rides and we do not own any vehicles. it's pretty clear that they're trying to fit us into a box that doesn't fit. >> reporter: he says it's all about safety. catching a ride with them is as safe as any transportation service on the road now. >> a million dollar excess liability policy, that's greater than the $750,000 requirement that they have on the entities they do regulate. we do a criminal background check on anyone who wants to be a driver on this platform. they don't have that as a requirement of the entities that they regulate. we do a dmv record check and have strict criteria related to that. they require a dmv record check, but they don't have criteria of what is acceptable or not with the entities they

regulate. i think it's very clear we believe strongly in safety, and we're going above and beyond the existing transportation providers. >> reporter: i spoke to the california public utilities commission. they said they have legitimate reasons for doing this, that they are trying to keep the public safe. they believe in what they're doing here. so if the companies do not pay or appeal, they could face more fines. and after that, they couldn't really follow me what happens. it'll be interesting to see what happens. i'll keep you informed. the u.s. postal service is reporting a record loss for the tiscal year -- fiscal year, close to $16 billion. this is happening despite what the postal service says was a year of record product tifl and growth -- productivity in shipping and packaging.

it blames congress. they're also planning to cut 150,000 workers through 2015, and raise the price of first-class stamps. people are already lining up for black friday sales. this is more than a week before black friday! some people are grabbing spots near the entrance of this best buy near san diego county. the store manager says it's the earliest he's ever seen this happen. last year, there were record sales on black friday. the average shopper spent about $400. jim harbaugh is hospitalized with an irregular heart beat. gary's got that story straight ahead. and buster posey takes home the mvp award!

putting together within of the greatest -- one of the greatest seasons ever by a catcher, and buster posey is the nl mvp. posey and his fame received the news back home in georgia. and all the while, posey, we ran up his offensive numbers. but we also was behind the plate and is the unquestioned leader of the san francisco giants in only his 3rd year! buster poser, mvp!
